Bang Pa-In Summer Palace |
One of the places I’d like to visit in Thailand is Ayutthaya, the ancient capital of Thailand. So my friends and I booked the “Ayutthaya by Grand Pearl” package tour for Thb 1,600 each.
We haven’t decided yet our hotel accommodation at the time we booked this tour. All we told Oil, the tour guide from our temple tour, was that we are moving to a new hotel. We just arranged to be picked up at the lobby of First House Hotel since we knew that we will be staying within that area anyway.
On the day of the tour, we learned from our service car driver that there will be other people joining us. Our van made its way to Baiyoke Sky Hotel where we were met by our tour guide and two adorable senior couples.
Our first stop was Bang Pa-In, one of the districts of Ayutthaya Province. Its major tourist attraction is the Royal Palace also known as the Summer Palace. We reached Bang Pa-In in less than an hour.
The Royal Palace opens at 8:00am. While waiting for the Royal Palace to open, we decided to check the surrounding area. We shouldn’t have done that. There were stray dogs down the streets. I was almost attacked by one. It was partly my fault as I’m really frightened by just a mere sight of a strange dog, let alone one walking toward me. My first instinct was to run. Wrong move....I never learned. It’s a good thing that my friends caught up with me and kept me still. I felt relieved when our guide called on us to enter the palace already.
The palace ground was quite big. You can cover it by foot or you can opt to rent a cart to drive around the complex.
