Suvarnabhumi International Airport |
Welcome to Bangkok! It was almost 4:00 PM when we arrived at the Suvarnabhumi International Airport. I can see the excitement from my friend as it was her first time to travel abroad. We were giggling on our way out of the plane. We were teasing our friend to put on her name tag and be on guard for her not to get lost. We just arrived and we were already starting to have fun.
The airport was huge and there are walkalators so we already
guessed that it will be a long way out. We were not in a hurry so we had time
for a trip to the restroom and some picture taking.
We guessed it right. We passed through several walkators and shops. It seemed like an endless walk to the gate. There was a long queue when we reached the immigration hall. But immigration was fast and easy. No questions asked. We got our stamp! Baggage retrieval was also quick. For a first time traveler, it was a pleasant experience for our friend who was anxious about immigration. We also liked that the signage in the airport was easy to follow. We were approached by several tour agents. Although we were skeptical on booking a tour at the airport because of its rate, we settled on booking one. Overall the tour we booked proved to be a wonderful experience for us, and it was fairly priced. We thought of taking the Airport Link to the city, but changed our mind and hailed a taxi instead.
Departure was also a breeze. Departure security and
immigration were pretty straightforward. The airport was big and beautiful. There
were a lot of travelers but it didn’t feel crowded. There were plenty of places
to shop, eat and relax. It’s like you are in a big shopping mall. It would have
been nice to shop around but everything was overpriced, even Duty free shops.
And it would have been nicer if we didn't have to walk too far to get to the departure hall.
