Thailand 2012 (Part I)

Bangkok, Thailand

I was glad when my friends invited me to go on a trip. We initially thought of going to Singapore to catch the weekend market sale. But when one of our friends backed out due to schedule conflict, we ended up flying to Bangkok instead.
Luckily we were able to get a discounted fare from Tiger Airways. It will be our first time in Bangkok so we thought it would be best if we pre-booked our accommodation. We chose Siam Star Hotel for our first 3 nights and decided to just look for a nice inexpensive hotel for the remainder of our stay when we get to Bangkok.

Here’s a glimpse of our 8 days in the City of Smiles.

Day 1:
We arrived at Suvarnabhumi International Airport after a 3 hour flight from Manila. We passed immigration, collected our baggage, booked a tour, and took an airport taxi to our hotel.

The traffic was bad in Bangkok. It took us an hour to get to our hotel. We paid a total of THB 370 including the toll fee. The Airport Link is a better option if you wish to save time and money.

Siam Star Hotel is a basic hotel, a place to sleep and bathe. It was just worth the price we paid.
It’s good that we only booked 3 nights because we didn’t like the smell at the hotel.

After dinner, we checked the nearby markets, shops and wholesale malls around the area.
We only did a little shopping as most wholesale shops were already closing.

Day 2:
It’s Temple Tour Day! We booked this tour at the airport.
The tour included a visit to Wat Traimit, Wat Pho, Wat Phra Kaew and the Grand Palace.

This was a very tiring day for us but we still managed to do some bargain hunting after the tour.

Day 3:

We had to wake up early to find a dental clinic. My friend paid THB 1,200 to have her bridge fixed.
Oh what a steal! We spent the whole day bargain hunting and scouting for our new accommodation.

Day 4:

We moved today to Juldis Tower. There was nothing fancy about this residential condominium but we liked the rooms offered to us yesterday. What really caught our interest is the fact that there were shipping and forwarding companies at the ground floor. We can make use of their huge scale to weigh our baggage.

This was the most expensive day for us. We spent almost THB 85,000 in jewelry.
Gold and gem stones are cheap in Bangkok but you need to have the skill to check what’s genuine from not.

Please visit our online shop.

We also visited some of the famous malls in Bangkok but didn’t do anymore shopping.
We already reached our shopping quota for the day…hahaha…

I'm one with the car...isn't it obvious?!

Day 5:
We were at the Chatuchak Weekend Market until 5:00 PM.
It was a good place for bargain shopping but was too crowded for me.

It started to rain late in the afternoon so we call it a day and head back to the hotel early.

We've been here for days now but we haven't tried Bangkok's night life.
We were always too tired to go out at night. Since we're back early, we brought home some booze to boogie the night away.
